Chuck Findley 66M One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece (2019-11-06)
4 star review
Title: I tried the Chuck Findley model
I found the rim to be more comfortable than the Bach 3C rim I am accustomed to playing. The cup however on the 66M seemed a bit shallow, even though I could play it fairly well. But I am not accustomed to playing shallow cups so I felt no immediate benefit from the mouthpiece in range or volume of sound. My tone was actually a little warmer and less edgey on the 66M. I felt this was because I felt my chops were not vibrating as freely because of the shallow cup. I would recommend it for someone who normally plays a shallower cup because the rim is more comfortable than standard rims. I intend to try another Wedge model that has a slightly deeper, thanks to the helpful return/ exchange policy they have at Wedge. -Joseph M.

Title: I was skeptical at first...
As a retired HS band director I had some initial skepticism and when I received the acrylic H2 tuba mouthpiece I thought...that's it? Upon putting it to the test I found that notes slot much easier and that I could still maintain a big sound. I play in a community concert band and several of the band director/members noticed that I had a bigger sound with the "blue plastic"mouthpiece. Bravo on making a great tuba mouthpiece that makes this old tubist sound a little less "old guy"! Also, thanks for having a 90 day return policy as I would not have tried it without it. -Ken N

I recently took over playing lead in a big band and I was struggling with range and endurance. After discussing with Dr. Dave, I purchased a 665MDV single piece mouthpiece, which, is a little large for playing lead but somewhat smaller than my previous setup. My range, although it only improved slightly, was more solid, the notes slot better, my endurance improved immensely and the overall sound improved. Title: 67MV - Great medium sized piece!!
This was the first Wedge that I ordered last March after many weeks of examining the website and communicating extensively with Dr. Dave. His exhaustive advice and constant availability are unique in the entire music business, and he guided me to my initial purchase. Since then I've purchased several other excellent mouthpieces for flugelhorn, piston trumpet, and rotary trumpet. What really struck me immediately about the 67MV was its richness of tone and ease of response. I would describe it as a medium-small cup (for me at least) and I found the depth to be similar to a Yamaha or Schilke B cup or a Bach 3C. Being (subjectively, of course) on the bright side of the timbre scale, I knew right away that an MD cup would probably become my standard piece, and in fact that's the way it has turned out. Will I send this piece back? Absolutely not!! It's great for work that requires a more (slightly more) cutting edge in the sound and greater projection, like pop/rock music or a high but non-lead big band part. However, it can also be used for symphonic work where an inherently dark sound is not vitally necessary. What was so amazing about this mouthpiece is that once I started playing it I never went back to my conventional mouthpieces, which btw are excellent. I played in a symphonic film-score concert just four days after it arrived! Dr. Dave described this situation as me being a "Wedge Responder", and I can only confirm that this is so. I am also extremely satisfied with the 67MD, 67RT, and 67FL that I own and reviewed at the beginning of August of this year (if anyone might be interested in reading those reviews). I repeat what I've already written in my reviews and on the Wedge FB page, that in my experience everything that is claimed on the Wedge website is true. And this is because behind the design, development, and subsequent evolution of Wedge mouthpieces is science, medical knowledge, and research. These mouthpieces are unique, and they work beautifully for me. AND, they've breathed new enthusiasm into my life of music making! -Michael A.

Title: My New Main Mouthpiece
After playing my Yamaha YTR6310Z trumpet with the 66MV wedge mouthpiece for 3 weeks, including 3 public performances, I can say the transition is finalized. My main playing genre is jazz, including improvised solos, in combo and big band ensembles. Been playing trumpet over 60 years now and have not won any high note awards yet. Try to play an hour or so each day, but lapses do occur. Therefore, good enough endurance to get thru the gig is always an issue. The wedge mouthpiece has helped a little to improve endurance. Also makes C to D above the staff a little more attainable in active playing situations. It is more comfortable. Attack precision and flexibility are good. Tone is also good to my ear – maybe a little brighter than with the Yamaha 14B4. None of my listeners have asked if something is wrong or am I feeling OK – this is a good sign. Making sure the dots are properly vertically aligned takes some getting used to. I find myself checking each time I begin playing; the mouthpiece does not work well if the dots aren’t vertical. It is also not a magic mouthpiece. Improvements, in my experience, are marginal, but every little bit of improvement is gladly appreciated. So, bottom line: the wedge mouthpiece is working for me, and I plan to order one for my flugelhorn and maybe another trumpet one for emergency lead situations soon. -James Roger V.

Title: Warning: One might not be enough
Endurance and high range on my trombones were areas I wanted to improve. At 70 years old, muscle building is slow and limited. After reading about the Wedge, I bought one for my main axe, a Conn 88 HCL - medium/large bore with a large shank mouthpiece.. I noticed an immediate improvement in endurance, and suspected my Gs were coming a little easier. After several weeks, I was positive my endurance and range were both improving. So I ordered one for my small bore Conn 6H secondary bone and another for the scrappy Yamaha 4-valve euphonium I am beginning to fool around with. I figured I needed the help there too. Now, a couple months later, As, perhaps even B-flats are where my Gs used to be in accessability ... and I'm moving up bit by bit from there. Endurance is definitely improved. Perhaps I am doing something else differently, but I doubt it. I am giving credit to the Wedge mouthpieces, and am very grateful for their expert help in selecting the models that fit my three different situations. -Ted D.

Title: My new wedge mouthpiece.
I am a veteran player, an octogenerian and so the idea of not teaching an old dog new tricks sprung to mind when I ordered my mouthpiece. More like curiosity and the generous money back guarantee. I am also a procrastinator and looked at the mouthpiece for over a week before summoning the courage to try it. Why I hesitated I shall never know. I found the mouthpiece a delight. My sound improved and I was aware of more comfort with little evidence of pressure on the sides of my embouchure. My top range has increase in power although a high F rather than a G is now the reality. This could and should change in time but overall I am more than pleased with this mouthpiece which I bought on the strength of a YouTube clip of Dave(?) playing with the mouthpiece. Just pondering now whether to buy a flugel mouthpiece. -Colin J.

Title: Verdict Still Out
My first reaction to the 66MDV was uncertainty as to it's whether or not it would produce the desired results. My tone was not as full and there was no noticeable range improvement. However, after a few days of practice, I found my tone more closely matching the full, dark tone I'm used to. I do feel a significant improvement in flexibility. My range did not improve initially, however, after two weeks it seems to have improve slightly. At my first band rehearsal after using the 66MDV for about 2 weeks I did seem to have better endurance. I am considering exchanging for a different size, but want to give this another week or two. The concept of the Wedge seems to work well. I just want to be certain I have the best model for my desired results. -Kyle A.

Title: Brightest Sound Ever on the 65S!!
I’ve been playing trumpet for over 35 years and have experimented on many “lead” mouthpieces looking for a combination of comfort and endurance. My search ended when I purchased the Wedge 65S. I’ve always had a strong upper register. The first day running my range exercise on the 65S, I hit a double-D. My playing needs rarely go above high-G and it’s a joy to play Hugh-G’s on the 65S. The sound is blisteringly bright - which is exactly what I need. I opted for the 25-throat to allow more air. I’m equally happy with my 66MD and 67D tips. With all the tops on screw rims, the ML and S backbores make it simple to mix & match for a plethera of tone colors. Thanks Dr. Dave for following your dream and designing this terrific line of mouthpieces! p.s. I’m ordering a flugel cup for my darker tone needs! -Robert S.

Title: Update on 66MDV review; 5/26/19
As stated in my 5/26/19 review of the 66MDV trumpet mouthpiece, I bought a second one for my new Getzen silver elite bugle. I bugle for the American Legion Honor Guard and Bugles Across America. Wow, the 66MDV opened up the sound of the bugle to a big big voice! A bugle already is loud compared to a trumpet, but the 66MDV added a fullness and boldness to the sound. Overall, the sound is fuller and deeper than the Schilke Symphony M5C or Bach 7C that I had been using. Range is every bit as good and the high register stays full and rich too. Fellow buglers have commented on how good the sound is, mostly commenting on how full and open the sound is. The high notes and crescendo’s sound strong too. I am as pleased with the 66MDV on the bugle as I am on the trumpet. Once you hear the sound of this mouthpiece, the price becomes insignificant. Totally happy. -John T.

Title: 64ES Top 27 Throat
I bought this mouthpiece to help me get a little more range on the piccolo (I only can get to a high F and pretty squeeky at that using my 65S with aggressive shallow backbore). Honestly, the ES ended up being too shallow for me, I would lose the buzz after 5 minutes....I'm sure it was an issue with my embouchure. Guess you need to have better chops than mine to use this type of mouthpiece. But the best part about working with Wedge is instead of having an orphan mouthpiece in a drawer was that I was given substantial credit towards another less shallow piece. I'm definately a Wedge guy, and if they ever want to sponsor a crappy player, I'm in...LOL. -John G.

Title: Euphonium mouthpiece for trombone player
Playing both trombone, sackbut and euphonium is a challenge to find a euphonium mouthpiece supporting intonation, range and sound. I have tried many mouthpieces and finally I got this. It is a mouthpiece that really gives me good confidence in the upper register, it is comfortable to play on and the rim grip really fits me. What I have really not got used to is the sound that is more compact then playing on Denis Wick SM mouthpieces, but since I am not a brass band player but playing in wind and symphony orchestras this is not a big problem, for outdoor playing it is even a feature. The mouthpiece also gives you freedom to alter your playing and adapt it is just a matter of practicing and with the extended endurance that this mouthpiece gives it just makes it fun. I am playing on a Adams euphonium but also on a vintage Boosey & Hawkes Imperial, next step for me is to order the same mouthpiece but with medium sized shank. -M Frisk

Title: 75M French Horn One Piece Mouthpiece - Acrylic - American Shank
I purchased this mouthpiece recently and have practiced/rehearsed with it for about 3 weeks. My reason for buying it was that I may have developed an allergy to nickel/silver. The mouthpiece is comfortable for me (I have a relatively thin upper lip). I did not notice much difference between this mouthpiece (also used the tone modifier) and my silver Schilke 29 (the Schilke box says silver but most likely it is nickel-silver). I will be returning the Wedge mouthpiece, however, because I did not know when I bought it that the mouthpiece has to be placed in a particular way on the instrument and lips because of its unique rim which is supposed to produce its advantages. The package I received had a note attached stating to line up 2 white dots on the rim at the top and bottom of the instrument; I could see only one, and that was difficult with the translucent plastic due to reflection from light off the plastic. When I contacted Harrison mouthpieces I was told that on French horn mouthpieces there is only ONE white dot. But in order to line that up as recommended, I would have to hold my instrument at exactly the same angle every time. I can see where this might be relatively easy to do with a trumpet or trombone, but with French horn (which I hold at an angle resting the bell on my leg or occasionally lifting it upward to play loud passages, and which angle I must often change to read and/or turn pages of music)---in real-time performance requiring these changes, there is no time to check to see if the mouthpiece is correctly placed or to turn the mouthpiece to accommodate shifting positions. So I don't recommend this mouthpiece for most French horn players. I do think there should be something on the website that explains why the mouthpiece placement is important; had I known that I would not have ordered it. Except for that problem, which I think would affect many French horn players, I would say that the ordering experience (and, hopefully, the return) was very good. The information on the website was extensive, allowing me to narrow my choices, and the phone conversation I had with Dr. Dave was very helpful. I just think the website information for French horn players should be modified to explain the "white dot" requirement, and the mouthpiece design should be tested by some French horn players to see if it really works for most players. Possibly it would work for a player who memorizes solos or who stands up while performing and takes the weight of the horn on the right hand always holding the instrument at the same angle. -Jean D.
Dave's Response:
Hi Jean,
I am sorry you were not aware of the shape of the rim when you made your purchase. We do provide details about the rim and specific playing instructions on a few different pages on the website and store, but I am guessing you missed them.
https://deeps-deepot.mybigcommerce.com/playing-instructions/
https://deeps-deepot.mybigcommerce.com/how-the-wedge-works/
There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to orienting the mouthpiece in the receiver. Most horn players are able to adapt to it quite well, but I understand if it did not work out for you. I do suggest making a mark with a sharpie on the mouthpiece and on the leadpipe so that you can insert the mouthpiece the same each time. That at least makes it possible to insert the mouthpiece quickly and easily in a consistent orientation.
I will make sure that Daniel sends return instructions if he has not already done so.
Cheers, Dave

Title: 775D Review
I find it very hard to rate this product, as I personally haven't seen improvements in my playing, but in fact, it's quite the opposite. I may have a mouthpiece that just does not work well for me, but I do believe there is some good things to be said about this product. It is very well made, being a one piece, the rim, cup, and shank all flow together seamlessly, and the cup not being completely round, but oval, is very innovative. I can tell a lot of design and thought has been put into this mouthpiece, and I don't want my review to detract from this, since I know it works wonders for many of the professional players i work with regularly. Overall, I think this mouthpiece is very high quality, but you really have to get the perfect mouthpiece for you, which I have not yet, or a traditional style mouthpiece may just be what I need, but regardless of what works for me, I give this mouthpiece a high review for the high quality it represents. -Cole S.

67RT One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece (2019-08-01)
5 star review
Title: 67RT - the best rotary trumpet mouthpiece I've ever played!!
I'm actually reviewing first the Wedge mouthpiece that I have spent the least amount of time on, but it doesn't matter at all. ALL of the Wedges that I've bought have been instant successes, with immediate positive results. I can confirm that every claim made on the Wedge website, about how these mouthpieces will improve performance, is true. I won't get into why it works, everything is exhaustively explained on the website. I guess I'm what Dr. Dave Harrison calls a "Wedge responder", or one that takes to the new equipment right away. Infact, I played a concert on a new 67MV four days after it arrived. So, the 67RT. What a beautiful sound, easy response, and efficiency on the rotary instrument. The cup depth is deep but not too deep, somewhere between a Breslmair G2 and G3, but closer to the G2. It's quite v-shaped, and it matches perfectly with the smaller bore of the typical german/austrian type of trumpet. Because of this deep cup/small bore combination, the upper range is not at all difficult to produce, and the sound is full and rich in all registers. It's a joy to play on! The Wedge was up against some very stiff competition from some other fine mouthpiece makers, but it's on the horn at every playing now. Everything else is in my mouthpiece cemetary! -Michael A.

Like the other Wedges I am using, with this flugelhorn mouthpiece the positive results were instantaneous! The soft, smooth response is very impressive and pleasurable. Gorgeous sound! The big surprise is that, notwithstanding the fact that the cup is considerably deeper than what I was previously playong on, the upper register is easier to keep up to pitch! It really does make playing easier and more efficient. Again, the change to the new equipment was of the "never look back" kind. Fantastic products. -Michael A.

Title: Great general use mouthpiece!
I'm pretty sure that the 67MD is going to be my general use mouthpiece. My first Wedge was a 67MV, which I purchased after a lengthy period of reading/studying everything I could about them and an extended, informative and guiding email conversation with Dr. Dave Harrison. No one else in this business dedicates that much time and energy with clients for such extended periods. The MD cup has a beautiful, warm but focused sound. As with all Wedges, it has a special singing quality that's so easy to produce. The combination of pressure transfer, the lateral dip, and the oval shaped cups seems to produce this. I also really like the MV for when a brighter sound is appropriate but a lead mouthpiece isn't necessary. As I mentioned in another review, I've found all claims made on the website to be true! I can also use the MD on my rotary trumpet, and the difference in sound with respect to the RT is much less than one might expect. I've found the Wedge rim design to be, in my opinion, the most important advance in brass instrument technology since the invention of valves two hundred years ago. It is truly revolutionary, and has made me a very happy brass player with newly found enthusiasm for music making! -Michael A.

Title: 101G Trombone Mouthpiece - happy with the change
I play a Conn 88 in a summer-only community band. Though I try to keep my embouchure up fall through spring, I never quite have enough range nor nearly enough lip endurance. From written reviews I figured it was worth a try... the guarantee adds confidence to that decision. No hype. The Wedge is noticeably better for stamina and I think I'm hearing a brighter sound. One catch: It was like giving a 5K runner instant 10K endurance. I quite literally blistered my upper lip by going on too long, too soon. That cost me 10 days mandatory rest. I have to build up a bit more gradually. I started over on Tuesday practice for Thursday's concert. It really was nice to play the whole concert without my lip shutting down in the last 1/3rd. Other than inability to hold the last 3 Fs in the last song, I made it through without compromise. -Ted D.

The ML C-length shank was my go-to piece for my Yamaha D/Eb, and now it becomes THE piece for the C rotary. Because the ML C-length shank is more free blowing throughout the whole register than the Bb shank, it has become the orchestral choice for my Schagerl Bb rotary Ganch horn as well.

RE:64MV Trumpet Top and 2 Piece Backbore (2019-06-27)
My history with Wedge is at least 6 years.
I had not played a trumpet in more than 20 years, but picked up my horn on a lark and got hooked again in about 2013. . . wanted to switch to cornet for a mellower sound, but had no cornet mouthpieces; tried about a hundred from a friend in town, but also researched online through Internet Searches, saw the Wedge mentioned, checked you out, was impressed by the intentional medical thought that went into the design, so tried a Wedge cornet mouthpiece. I’m a pharmacologist, after all, so things like blood flow, innervation of musculature, etc., mean something to me.
I was not a “responder” but was persistent, and after a few weeks, decided the Wedge merited a long-term trial.
After a few months playing exclusively on the Wedge, I could still play on conventional Bach mouthpieces, but I disliked like the restrictive feel. I’ve never looked back; I use Wedges exclusively; had a full complement of cornet and trumpet mouthpieces in Bach 3 (66) rim size, but recently (6 or 8 months ago) downsized to a 64 rim size and sold my quiver of B3/66 mouthpieces to a friend . . . now he and his wife, both trumpeters, are Wedge devotees.
I’ve bought all my horns second hand; if you check my order history, I think you’ll see why I’m likely correct when I say I’ve spent as much on Wedge mouthpieces as on horns . . . because it’s true . . . the mouthpiece(s) are more important than the resonating chamber.
Because I switched to the Wedge during my re-introduction to trumpet/cornet playing, it is tough for me to say that the Wedge improved my sound, range, endurance, etc., but there is something I can absolutely attest to, and I think it makes perfect sense in light of the design of the Wedge rim. No matter how long I practice or perform on any give day, and regardless of how fatigued I may become, my chops are NEVER sore, ever. That was definitely NOT the case when I played on conventional mouthpieces, regardless of rim design or cup depth. If I over-did it, I paid the price the next day or so in sore chops. Since switching to Wedges, I may be tired the day following a day of excessive playing, but the chops are NEVER sore. That’s huge . . . that means I’m exercising the muscles without injury. I’m not restricting blood flow to the embouchure or pinching nerves. My endurance increases linearly with my practice schedule and I never have to rest to repair an injury. I may need to practice lightly some days to give myself some rest, but I NEVER need to lay off to let sore chops heal.
Best regards,
Chris

I originally purchased an LT 100 rim for my 100C Doug Elliott mouthpiece back in the fall of 2018. I had been playing a Doug Elliott LT 100 rim since 1990. I kept going back and forth with both rims until I began to realize that the Wedge rim was much better and I didn't have any lip swelling the next day after a night gig. I ordered the 100C Gen 2 Trombone Mouthpiece with a .250 back bore 8 weeks ago. I've been on it for nearly 3 weeks. This mouthpiece is by far the best piece I have ever played. The sound is fat throughout all the registers from pedal E's all the way up to Double High Bb's. I only wish that I had made the switch sooner. Dave, you're a genius and I'm extremely grateful for your recommendation to this piece. Best regards, Joe P.

I ordered a Wedge rim, hoping to help my endurance and range after 8 to 10 years off of playing. My set up just didn’t seem to work with this rim. After a day of frustration trying to make it work, I knew it wasn’t for me. I sent a message to return the rim and was instructed in how to return the rim. It is true what Wedge says. After receiving the rim back, they refunded 100% of my money. Can’t ask for a better return policy. The product was well made and the company very honest, but I was sorry it didn’t work for me.

I bought the 64S top to try as a commercial piece and I absolutely love it. The response and feel make it ideal for the longer gigs I do (sometimes 4-5 hours of playing!). There was definitely an adjustment period of a few days, but now it feels infinitely better than my old (non-Wedge) mouthpiece. I like this piece so much that I even put a cornet backbore on it and use it in my brass band (I play soprano cornet). It fits so many situations! Total game changer for me!

I ordered the size mouthpiece in accordance with the chart on the website. I received the mouthpiece in a timely manner. It was nicely packaged and well made. It fit comfortably on my embouchure and I worked diligently with it for four consecutive days. It neither added nor took away from my endurance and made it more difficult to play in the lower register. With that being said, I have friends whose opinions I respect that have had better results using their Wedge Mouthpieces. It is a very well thought out concept and well worth trying. The return policy is more than reasonable.

After 10 years without playing my horn, an opportunity came along to entice me back. Just then, Dr. Dave’s posts about the “Wedge” appeared. With the recommendation of a long-time (neither of us is old) friend, Prof. Berinbaum at UBC, I decided to give it a try. I also found a good teacher and am amazed at how quickly my “chops” are returning. It is not a substitute for practicing but it is no spendy “Dumbo’s Feather”, either. While others in the section are complaining about fatigue & discomfort after a long rehearsal or concert, I am relatively comfortable. After 6 weeks, my range has grown faster than I expected. Thank you, Dr. Dave for helping me to find the right one to get.

I bought my mouthpiece because I struggled with stamina during gigs. I constantly had to wipe off my old mouthpiece and had trouble losing seal out the side of my mouth. First I noticed is my seal problem is fixed and my lips hold in the wedge design. Also, as an added benefit, I felt I always had to tip my head back to play to keep horn up which Dave suggested I try a 5 degree angle. My horn feels much more comfortable to stand and play now. Lastly, I recently tried my old mouthpiece on a challenging song, after my lips felt gassed I put the wedge design back in my horn and was able to play it easily through 2 more times!! I love it. Give it a try!!

The Wedge 65ES Delivers The Goods….
This my first Wedge mpc experience, and everything touted on the website, I experienced. My endurance has increased, not only while practicing, but also during performance. My flexibility has increased as evidenced by running through numerous Arban and Hering etudes with more accuracy than ever before. The comfort of the unique Wedge rim allowed increased response, especially at soft volume levels. The sound I hear behind the bell seems to have more core, and my high end notes lock in more securely and feel extremely solid when playing them. I can’t recommend the Wedge mouthpiece enough!

Extremely comfortable mouthpiece 66MDV
This mouthpiece is exactly what I was looking for. I was lucky to find it in Dr. Dave’s “scratch and dent” section (although I’m hard-pressed to find a single scratch or dent), but I would have happily paid full price. I’ve been going back and forth between a more conventional mouthpiece and a Wedge 66M in plastic, but the plastic was too grippy for my tastes. Switching to the slightly deeper cup and the more comfortable silver plate made this mouthpiece feel like a perfect match right away, and it’s only feeling more comfortable by the minute.

XT 104 Trombone Screw Rim
As soon as I put this rim on my lips I sensed a noticeable improvement. My sound was more full with more core. Overall it feels easier to get around the horn. Range is improved both low and high. At times I was using larger 105 and 106 rims in the past in order to play the low range more easily, but with the way the Wedge rim is curved to fit my face I can use a smaller rim down low, which also improves my endurance and high register. I noticed that my articulation became cleaner with less clammed notes too! I can safely say that I won’t be going back to my old mouthpieces. The Wedge is here to stay!

Great piece!
I find the 102E to be the best match for my vintage Sovereign euphonium. Dr. Dave suggested I try a slightly smaller inner diameter than I would normally play based on my own evaluation of my playing. With the Wedge rim I get the clarity and fantastic flexibility of a smaller mouthpiece, with the extra room and bigger sound provided by the oval shape. There was a bit of an acclimation period for me, but it was worth the wait. Wedge mouthpieces are different, and worth a try in my book!

67MD – Biggest innovation in mouthpieces in my lifetime!
I purchased a Wedge mouthpiece based on a roundup review of the top mp’s currently on the market and in hindsight that review did not fully highlight the virtues of the Wedge so I will endeavor to correct that now. I performed a “blind” A/B/C test with my 2 go-to mp’s (A Schilke 15 and Bach 1C) and the new Wedge 67MD, my go-to horn (YTR-8335) and a single piece of music. After playing all three mp’s randomly for 20 minutes, my listener preferred the Wedge each and every time. We both noticed that the Wedge had more tonal richness and robustness, that my interval accuracy was superior, and I fewer cracked notes on attack. And the ergonomic comfort of the oval cup was a major surprise! The only downside was that my range was off by about a full two tones but that appears to be due to the throat not being as large as my A & B mps so I’m waiting on a new Wedge with a throat that matches my air stream needs. I thank Dr. Dave and his company for accommodating my request for an exchange and him taking the time to answer my numerous questions. I highly recommend the Wedge and Harrison Mouthpieces Inc. for their outstanding products and customer service.

I’ve been searching for a comfortable small-bore trombone mouthpiece for the past year. After getting my first Wedge mouthpiece for my large bore (4.5g) and loving it, I decided to try one for small bore. I contacted Dr. Dave and he helped me pick what turned out to be the perfect mouthpiece for me. I am beyond satisfied. One thing that particularly impressed me was its versatility. This acrylic top pairs perfectly with a stainless steel heavy back bore that I use for pops, lead and jazz work. Great for my needs
This mouthpiece is perfect for my needs. The acrylic adds to the softness and “mellowness” of the tone. it’s not as deep as say a yamaha 14F4 or something that one would ususually play on a flugelhorn to achieve the wide open tone, but because of the acrylic it makes up for it. With the wedge mouthpieces i can cheat and slightly open the sides of my embouchure to add a bit of “whisper” tone to my flugelhorn which is super cool. This mouthpiece is my 4th, and i don’t plan on stopping. every one has it’s own character and i love playing around with combinations of mouthpieces, mouthpiece materials and horns. WILL BUY MORE!!! I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!

Better sound, and no loss of endurance or range!
I played a bach 3c with a bach strad for 20 years in various settings. A few years back I switched to a wedge B3C because a friend recommended it, but I seemed to have some tuning challenges in the upper register. I have also started to play in a jazz band and have some lead parts, so I contacted Dave to discuss some solutions. Dave recommended that I play a 66MD with a heavy weight backbore and standard shank in more legit settings. He thought that would improve my tuning and slotting in the upper register without causing me to lose range or endurance. Frankly, I have been very pleasantly surprised with the performance of this setup. I have better flexibility, better tuning in the upper register, and no loss of range of endurance. I also bought a 66FLC for my yamaha flugel and I have had similar results. I have good control of pitch and tone colour into the upper register, and since the setup is very similar to my wedge trumpet setup, it is very easy to switch instruments during shows. I could go on, but I think it is better to sum it by saying that if you have mouthpiece questions or concerns, talk to Dave. His advice is excellent, as are his mouthpieces. Thanks Dave, your mouthpieces are helping me to play to my full potential.
